Acknowledgements 2022

The Native News Honor Project is reported, photographed, edited and designed by students of the University of Montana School of Journalism. This is the 31st annual edition. The team appreciates the advice and counsel for the project received from Mark Trahant, editor-at-large of Indian Country Today; Rosalyn LaPier, professor of Environmental Studies at the University of Montana; Michael Kirby Smith and Andrew Burton, co-directors of the film “Newtok;” and Peter McDonough, director of the Climate Change Studies Program at the University of Montana. We also appreciate the assistance of the students in Dennis Swibold’s News Editing class.

Funding support for this year’s publication came from the University of Montana School of Journalism and the Greater Montana Foundation, encouraging communication on issues, trends and values of importance to Montanans.
