Drew Fisher, 8, and Murando Little Whrilwind, 7, play on the grade school swings with cultural education coordinator Hollie Mackey. “With the installment of the No Child Left Behind Act into our school system, many classes like home ed, art, and even recesses are being cut to make room for a more focused approach towards mathematics and reading,” said Mackey. “The kids start at 8:26 am and go straight till 3:07 pm with no recess. Kids have sensory issues and need to move. The teachers here do whatever it takes to help them out even if it means a spending some time on the swings.” Photo: Mike Greener |
