Jessica Mayrer

Reporter

I was born and raised in San Francisco and moved to Montana in 2000. I am now a junior majoring in print journalism, and I expect to graduate in May 2008.

My time in this state has opened my eyes to the deep cultural traditions and ongoing struggles of American Indians. I am thrilled at the prospect of learning even more as I participate in the Native News Honors Project.

My name is Jessica Mayrer, and I'll be reporting from Montana's Fort Peck Reservation.

A native of Libby, Mont., though I grew up in Ladysmith, Wis., I’m a first-year graduate student in the journalism school's photojournalism program. I received my undergraduate degree in English from Carleton College in Northfield, Minn. I’ve always been interested in minority populations and I especially enjoyed a class I took at Carleton on American Indian literature.

I feel that the Native News Honors Project is an extremely honorable publication with which to be involved. I’m excited to help others gain a glimpse into life on a reservation.

My name is Kristine Paulsen, and I will be photographing on the Fort Peck Reservation.
